Web Application Firewall (WAF) – Protection of Public and Other Web Services

Protects web applications from sophisticated online attacks – including denial-of-service attacks – and provides timely alerting and blocking of malicious actions. The advantage of web application firewalls is that they operate at an application level, dynamically learn and get to understand business logic of web applications, and are capable of detecting anomalies in application usage and data access. This system component is a complementary upgrade to the classic firewall and Internet Provider Security (IPS) systems. PCI-DSS standard recommends using the WAF components in protection of key web applications. Depending on system architecture and your specific needs the WAF component can be implemented either as a stand-alone platform or as an integrated software component on Application Delivery Controller (ADC) platforms.
